Reinventing Myself at 36
While working M-F and living in my childhood home
While working M-F and living in my childhood home
I had a good sleepless hour at least trying to think of the best title for what I am trying to do at this point in my life.
For backstory: I am 36 years old. I have been single for 4 years and not dating for 3.5 years. I live in my childhood home with my parents in a rural area of BC, Canada. I work Monday to Friday.
I follow a lovely woman who started a series over 200 days ago on Instagram documenting her, “starting over at 35”. She’s going strong and I love seeing what she is doing and she’s a big part of why I’ve gotten the courage to try again at my own documenting.
[ Her name is Daria, she’s from Poland and has recently moved to Toronto. So she’s in my country! but still like literal days of driving away haha. If you’d like to see her series find her here: @dariakropop ]
The difference being that I’m not currently restarting. I’m still going to work 5 days a week and in between I’m attempting to reinvent my life.
I have a goal of moving to Scotland before I turn 40 and at that point I guess it will be more like restarting after moving countries and continents.
For now though I’m just me, in the same place I’ve been for years trying to dig myself out of staying the same day after day and year after year.
Nothing I do will be explosive, at least I don’t expect it to be.
I’ve been building up habits day after day for more than 50 of them at the point that I’m writing this first article. I’m even reading about habits and forming them because now that I’m hands on building them in my life they’ve become exponentially more interesting to me.
Habits I’ve been doing for 50 days +
- Walking 10,000 steps
- Exercising for 45 minutes
- Brushing + flossing my teeth
- Drinking 80oz of water
- Reading 10 pages of a non-fiction book
Other Habits:
- I’ve been making my bed for over 30 days
- I’ve been taking a daily progress picture of myself for almost 20 days
- I’m on day 2 of both writing for 5 minutes daily and also learning British Sign Language
I’ve come to realize the reinventing myself is going to be a slow process that will see me building on top of habits as I move along. Some of these habits will be in my life for the long term while I realize some may have seasons of their own.
I’m planning to write out as I go through this process and also do it in video format on probably IG, hopefully weekly on both fronts.
