Self Care and You

There is something essential about the act of self-care even when we don’t believe that we have the time for it. Or the money.
The lie we tell ourselves is that self-care must take hours, it must cost, it must..it must..it must. What?
Self-care though is a very personal experience, it’s in the name, self. What this looks like to me might be wholly different than it looks to you.
For example, my self-care often looks like a 20 minute walk in the park across from my home. It’s writing out my morning pages. Showering and washing my hair each morning. Shutting off the computer and focusing fully on a movie.
Other ideas for you?
- Cooking a favourite meal
- Meditation
- Movement
- Sitting down with a good book
- Practicing yoga alone or in a class setting
- Going for a drive with the music on
- A hot bath
- Volunteering at the animal shelter
- Writing out affirmations
- Dancing alone in the kitchen
- Shutting off your phone
- Writing out your goals and dreams
- Working in the garden
Remember, it’s personal and what works for you may be none of these ideas listed. Whatever does work for you though, do that.
Whether it’s tiny or big, if you can, do it.
And if you want to do the big thing but have the tiny side of time, consider what could be changed to accommodate the realities of now.
You want to finish that book but you’ve only got 10 minutes before bed. Revel in those minutes.
Sometimes you will need to tailor the desire for the reality of the moment. But that doesn’t mean even that little bit isn’t just as worth it.
