Week One of Reinventing Myself at 36
And how it took two months to get here
And how it took two months to get here
It’s often said how overnight success is 10 years in the making and I believe it even though I wish it could just be overnight… Like, just this once, for me? Please?
June 24th was day one for me to get to where I stand (write) before you now.
My ground zero. The start of the trail. The bottom of the mountain.
That was almost two months ago and it is just now that I am beginning to document it all beyond the one habit tracking app that I use. So, even though I’m putting this as week one it’s really month two.
I’ve worked hard to be able to say that I’ve been doing many of these habits for this long.
My mom actually asked me about it this past week and how all these things that she knows I’m doing came about.
It was yet another person on IG actually. She had started a challenge for herself with the goal of 30 days and called it #justhardenough. I thought it sounded interesting, I wanted to try these habits myself. So, I did. Though I didn’t set up my habits exactly like hers and after a week or two a couple of the habits I had originally chosen I decided didn’t work for me at that time. The core ones? They are still going strong.
Unfortunately the person who started the challenge I found did not stick to it themselves but even so, I felt like I could in a way that was not a regular occurrence for me. Seeing someone else not reach it didn’t make me wonder if I would also fall off. I really was only focused on my day to day.
Challenges are great in groups and sometimes that is exactly what we need, but knowing you can keep doing the thing even on your own? That is pretty damn cool. I felt very cool in my own little world.
This past week I’ve been working dutifully on my habits.
I’m writing 5 minutes daily in a creative way though still not writing my book again.
Mum and I have gotten back to some weight training at home and I have a set of 15lb weights coming in the mail now.
I am days away from finishing my current non-fiction read, “The Power of Habits” which has been eye opening and I’ve really enjoyed learning from it.
Making my bed daily is truly making my bedroom also feel extra cozy, it just lifts my spirits.
Things I want to work on this coming week?
Adding in some Spanish lessons for language study because we might be going to Mexico in the near future.
Keeping up the writing and letting my brain be creative in this way.
Working towards 15K steps a day more often, one day I hope to make that a regular.
Vlogging and possibly posting an actual YouTube video?? Who am I?
I’ve come to realize that I can grow best when I am taking it all step by step. This takes times.
